Jack, I am trying to find the parents of my father. He was born in Ohio in 1906. He was a foster child to his aunt and uncle. His aunt was a blood aunt who had a sister Mary E. Murphy b. 1870 Avon, Lorain, Oh. who married a John Dowdell. I have no information on him at all except that he worked for the B&O Railroad. Mary E. died 24 Dec. 1916 Lorian, Oh. Vol. 2123 Cert. #75896. I believe this is the correct Mary. Her sister Margaret "Maggie" Murphy b. 1871 in Avon, Lorain, Oh. married James Reynolds who also worked for the B&O Railroad. She died Apr. 1924 Cuyohoga Co. Oh. Vo. 4426 Cert. #20317. She may also have been the mother of my father. His name was James Lewis Altmeyer and his Aunt and Uncle were Catherine and Lewis Altmeyer. They lived in Westlake, Oh. My father died in Cleveland in 1982. He told me that his real father was killed in a train wreck and all 5 children were put out for adoption. He was the youngest. He said there were 3 boys and 2 girls. I have not been able to find much on the Murphy family. The parents were; John and Anna ( Cooley) Murphy. He was from Ireland and she from Ohio as far as I know. The family lived in Black River Township in Lorain.
There are no records of adoption for my father so it has been very diffucult to find his parents. I am simply stabbing in the dark. Mary
