Hi Larry:
With an online subscription to Ancestry.com one can check local newspapers of the time. Not all papers were available for copy on microfilm, not all issues available online. However, there may be some clues here in two obituaries.
MRS. HELENA BURGESS (The Chronicle Telegram, 15 Sept 1927)
Mrs. Helena Burgess, 52, of Kipton, passed away in the Amherst hospital at 9:10 am today. She had been ill for four weeks.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband, John Burgess, by one son, Owen of Cleveland, by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Nickel of Amherst and Mrs. Margaret Blattner of Vermillion. She is also survived by one brother Peter Schaumberger of Hanover, Michigan, and by two grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and of the Altar Society.
Funeral arrangements will be announced Friday.
NICKEL FUNERAL RITES (The Chronicle Telegram, 13 Dec 1937)
Funeral rites for the late Mrs. Minnie Nickel, aged 76 years, who died Saturday morning, were held from St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church this afternoon preceded by private services from the Kreeger home on West street, the Rev. CE Schmidt officiating. Burial was made in the family lot at Crownhill Cemetery.
Nickel was widely known in this vicinity, having been born in South Amherst and lived there and in Amherst all her life.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Albert Kreeger, West street, with whom the deceased made her home, and two sons Charles, South Amherst, and George, Elyria.
The clue above is the "brother" of Helena who was Peter Shaumberger. Now the last name could be spelled several ways and I'm looking into the Census for you. Schaumberger (or bUrger), Schoenberger (or bUrger), Shoneberger, and so on, are possible spellings in the census, among others. I've tried to find this family in 1870 and 1880.
