Hi Kenneth:

Searching the 1860 database on Ancestry.com by first name, there are no responses for "Nicolas" in Ridgeville Twp., however, searching "Nicholas" turned up the following entry:

Nicholas Londale, age 19, male, farm help, b. in Germany. This name is listed with the following family (Enumerated on 1st June 1860, page 145):

BUTLER

Lidney, age 31, M, Farmer, b. Ohio
Sylvia, age 24, F, b. Ohio
Jennie, age 3, F, b. Ohio
Theador, age 6/12, b. Ohio
(then Nicholas)
Then: Mary Edgerton, age 16, F, b. CT

In 1870, I find a "Nick Laubenthal" noted as having been born in Prussia (age 29). He's with wife, Mary age 19, and daughter Anna, age 4/10ths (? - Census was taken August 9th) and Anna with notation born in January. This is from Milton Twp., Wood County, Ohio.

The following Laubenthal names appear in the 1870 Census:

Anna Laubenthal Township 3 Range 11, Monroe, IL abt 1862 Illinois White Female
Anna Laubenthal Township 3 Range 11, Monroe, IL abt 1820 Bavaria / Bayern White Female

The age agrees with the Nicholas notation in 1860. It appears that you have access to all the Census records, but the above entry may be a key for you.

I notice that someone else placed a query in 2002 on the Lorain County site, via USGenWeb.net for the exact same family:

"LAUBENTHAL - I'm trying to find information on Joseph LAUBENTHAL born 1815 Keifenheim, Germany. He married a Katherine (don't have a last name) she was also born in Germany. I know of one child named Nicholas LAUBENTHAL, my ggrandfather, born 18 Jan 1841 in Keifenheim, Germany. He married 18 Nov 1867, Mara Cotton. A Civil War vet, he resided in Elyria OH. Children were Anna, Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, Emma, Frank, Myra (my Grandmother), Clara, Mary, Luella, William, and Elnora. The German spelling of LAUBENTHAL was Lopendahl. Any information would be a great help. Thanks, Matt Mead."

Have you visited the website lately and viewed the Surname index? There are three other individuals also researching Laubenthal. Additionally, you may already have this, but the following notations are made in the St. Peters Catholic cemetery, Ridgeville, transcriptions:
