There was one George Hand listed as living in Lorain County in 1850, according to the census index. He and his family were living in Brighton Twp. and are enunerated on microfilm page 599 of the Lorain County census. The information is;

George Hand, farmer, age 50, born NY/NJ*
Rachel, age 49, born NY/NJ*
Enoch, age 23, born NY/NJ*
Jeremiah, age 21, born NY/NJ*
Rebecca, age 19, born Ohio
Sarah, age 15, born Ohio
Hannah, age 11, born Ohio
Betsy, age 10, born Ohio
John age 5, born Ohio

The birthplace of George and several of the older members of the family is not real clear on the microfilm. My best guess would be New York, but it could be New Jersey. It is either NY or NJ. Also living in Brighton Twp. is a James Hand, maybe a brother? His place of birth is New York.

James Hand, farmer, age 58, born NY
Margaret, age 56, born NY
Elizabeth, age 12, born Ohio

An additional entry in Brighton Twp. lists another James Hand age 29, living with another family. Perhaps a son of George or the elder James?

Hope this is helpful. Regards -- Richard
