My grandfather moved to Lorain in the late 1920s, lived on West 18th St., and also worked at the steel plant. The Lorain library has information collected about 40 years ago, listing the various ethnic organizations that existed in the city, and providing a brief history of each. I glanced through the information some time ago, and was amazed at the number and extent of the organizations. I would be happy to check the information for Slovak organizations the next time that I am at the library, if you wish. Perhaps current fraternal organizations, may have the old records.
Another possible source of valuable information would be obituaries. The local newspaper has microfilm copies back to about 1900. If you know the specific date of death of someone that you would like me to lookup, I would be happy to transcribe the information in the obituary and e-mail it to you.
