I'm looking for information on the family of Benjamin Davis, born in 1823 in Wales. He first shows up in the 1850 census in Stokes Township married to Eliza, last name unknown, born in about 1832 in Virginia. He worked as a cooper and a farmer. Living with them at that time is a William Y. Davis, age 19, who was reportedly "born at sea."
In the 1860 Census Benjamin and Eliza are in Bellefontaine. Between 1860 and 1870 it appears they're divorced. In 1870 and thereafter he's listed as divorced in Lake Township and living with his sons, including my great grandfather Franklin Davis, b. 1859, and sons Thomas and Lincoln. In the 1900 census she reappears as a single divorced head of household in Rushsylvania and works as a carpet weaver. There were also some daughters, one of whom was named Kate, but I do not find them anywhere after 1860.
I'm eager to find out more information on this family. Please respond if you know anything. I can provide updated information on the descendents of Franklin Davis, who died in 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
