WILLIAM HARVEY FROST was born in Licking County, Ohio, Sept. 25, l838, and departed this life at his home in Leon, Nov. 7, l9l8, aged 80 years, l months, l2 days.
Of a family of ten children, he is survived by two brothers, MATTHEW and WILLIS of Newark, Ohio, and two sisters, MRS. SARAH JANE MILLER, of Newark and MRS. LUCY ANN VAN WINKLE, of Davis City.
On January 6, l86l, at Newark, Ohio, he was united in marriage to MALINDA JANE VARNER. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom, with the aged wife, thirty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives, are left to mourn his departure. The children are: MRS. J.M. PERRY, of Elgin, Nebraska; MRS. H.W. PATTON, of Ordway, Colorado; MRS. JOHN EVANS, of Akron, Missouri; MRS. C.S. EVANS, of Garden Grove; MRS. W.P. GITTINGER; J.W. and W.M. FROST, of Leon.
The deceased was one of the pioneers of Decatur County, coming here in the spring of l864 where he located on a farm. During the summer he farmed and in the winter he taught school, teaching in all about twenty winters. The country continued to be his home until l906, when because of failing health, he and his estimable wife became residents of Leon.
In l900, MR. FROST was converted and united with the Presbyterian Church of Leon, of which he remained a faithful member until called to be a member of the church triumphant. Funeral services were conducted from the home by Rev. Ronk, the Leon Quartet furnishing music and the interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
