I am helping a friend whose Y-DNA matches the line of an Isaac Harris born about 1788 (possibly in PA) who had two sons John and Samuel Harris who were born in Licking Co. OH. Howver, both reloated to Morgan Co. OH where Isaac died in 1831.
His widow was Mary Drumm who lived until 1863 in Morgan Co. OH.
This same line matces a Thomas Harris born about 1791 in PA or MD (he self reports PA in 1850 but children living in 1880 list father born in MD). This line went through the area near Licking Co. as the oldest son born 1824 later reported he had been born in Pickaway Co. OH (which is near Licking Co. OH.) This Thomas we think stayed in OH until about 1843-1845 and then was in Moultrie Co. IL where he died shortly after 1850.
We are trying to sort out the Licking Co. OH Harris folks. There appear to be several possibly totally unrelated lines there early on.
DNA is probably the only way that the different lines can be sorted out. I am wondering if your Harris lines have been documented in the Harris DNA Project with Family Tree DNA Company.
If so, could you give the oldest known ancestor of your line and which group in the Harris DNA project you are in or if no match give the kit number in the group that has no matches yet so a comparison can be made of the lines?
This could be a huge help to those searching Harris lines that came out of MD, PA and VA and then arriving in OH early on.
Eager for a response.
