I am searching for the following couple: Abraham Daniel Shoemaker b. March 10, 1816 somewhere in Ohio who married: Ashsah Waite b. January 23, 1823 somewhere in Ohio they married in: June 8, 1847 in Lake County, OH Children: 1. Athalia H. Shoemaker b. May 4, 1847 2. Helen Shoemaker b. August 14, 1849 3. Almon Shoemaker b. April 1, 1853 4. Corydon David Shoemaker b. April 17, 1854 5. Merrett E. Shoemaker b. Oct 15, 1856 6. Waite Almon Shoemaker b. March 24, 1860 All the presumed to have been born in Lake County, Willoughby Township, OH. I found Abraham Shoemaker (not Abram) in the 1850 US census in the state of Ohio, he is 34, and is listed as a carpenter & something....that looks like the word "joiner". Ashsah is 28, and Atthalia is 3 and Helen is 1. They are in the Willoughby District 85 in Lake County and the census was taken on the 9th of September in 1850. Their house was estimated to be valued at $800.00. That is all the information that is given. They are found on page 14 of 51 pages. 1860 US census on page 139 we find the whole family. Abram Shoemaker 44 farmer, value of property $ 2800, value of other stuff $800 Ashsah "shown as Aney" 37 Athalia 13 Helen 10 Corydon as "Corider" 6 Merrit as Merret 4 Wait as Wait 3/12 ....3 months old It appears that Almon Shoemaker is missing and presumed to have died prior to 1860. 1840 US census in Lake County, Willoughby Township we finally perhaps find Abrams father. This was a very crude census in which the heads of families names are shown and then the number of people in the family, between x ages are shown under headings of females and males. First we find John D. Shoemaker and 1 male marked between 30 & 40, three females under the age of five, and one female (presumably his wife) found marked as between being between 20 and 30. The under John D. Shoemaker we find as a head of a family unit and one make between 20 & 30 and then one female between 20 and 30. This is all on page 5 of 26. One column even asks for how many slaves are attached to the head of the family. My family is lost on this couple ...I do not know the parents of Abram or Abraham Shoemaker ...and I do not know the parents of Ashsah Waite. This family during the Civil War and religious turmoil of the area moved in Stearns County, MN...after 1860 sometime. In the 1880 US census in Minnesota Abraham lists his parents are being from Ohio and Ashsah lists her father as a Waite from New York who married a woman from New York state. Lastly, the 1880 census of MN lists that perhaps Ashsah's two sisters have now joined this family...one sister being Amanda Waite b. 1820 born in NY state, and perhaps sister Azzissa. So it appears that sometime between 1820 and Ashsah's birth in Ohio in 1823 her parents packed up and moved to Ohio ...perhaps Lake County. I found it interesting that Ashsah might have been named after Ashtabula, OH ...just up the Western Reserve from Wiiloughby. HELP ! If you can do lookups or have possible ways to research this family I would appreciate it. Thanks ! Notify Administrator about this message?
