I've gotten a couple of responses on this and I've looked more closely at the census image and I believe that Rutland is actually Kirtland. I know that the person I was interested in lived in Kirtland in the preceding and following census years and that he was probably a member of the Mormon Temple in Kirtland.

I have also seen Mentor spelled as Mintor and Minton.
