I just discovered your reply to a question I had forgotten I asked. I must have received it but don't remember ever seeing it. I just don't understand my computer some times.
Thank you for the information. I still have no further connection to OH than I had but some day all these pieces will fit somewhere. I know from census tecords that my Samuel Bumpus was born in OH but the family could have been transient at the time. I have sent for the military records of a Samuel Bumpus that searved in the Civil War with Company G of the 8th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry because the 8th spent much of the war in the Carthage area where Samuel married 19 year old Catherine Lattin, my great grandmother, in 1869. Catherine was born in IN. to Dimmick Lattin and Serena Taylor who purchased 40 acres in Carthage MO. in 1854 and that farm is where Samuel and Catherine were married, lived and my grandfather was born in 1870. Duing the war many battles including the "Battle of Catharge" were faught on and near the farm. Dimmick Lattin was born in NY in 1800 and had lived in OH and IN before moving to SW MO, so I assume he was on the side of the Union as was his son George Lattin and Samuel. I have also sent for all the information the Wayne County Indiana Library has on all Samuel Bumpus's living in the area of the Mid West at the time my Samuel was.
This has been a particular dificult search. But I continue to persist with the encouragement of others like yourself.
