I have never heard of the Bevington's but I have no information about Samuel Bumpus before he showed up in the Jasper Co. Mo. sensus of 1870. That is also the year my grandfather, George James Bumpus, was born. All I know of James Bumpus is from family lore; "George Bumpus went to live with uncle James Bumpus, who owned a tavern, when his father died". I have subsequently spoken with an other Bumpus family who descend from James Ruben or Ruben James Bumpus who "moved from OH. or Il. with his brother" about the same time as Samuel. I have been unable to make any connection there either. Samuel and James may have been connected in some way with an Eliza Bumpus who, as I remember the census, was 29 in 1880, blind, 6 children all dead. She was living on the Jasper Co. poor farm at the same time as Samuel in 1880.
What is the connection with the Bevington's?
Thank you, Marlow
