FOUND HIM !! Just needed a name, now it all makes sense. This would seem to be his first wife and then he married Eliza Shoup a year after Amelia died. Also note 2 children lost in Nov of 1877.

I would send for Alexanders death certificate, check for will and probate, and start witht the 1910 census and work back ward to glean information. Should find Eliza in 1900 and Amelia in 1880 You might get lucky and find a parent living with them at some point.
Wish I could fix my own Knox Co problems this easy :)
