Anything is possible! With my children's paternal ancestors, there are 26 variations of the surname. And with additional documentation, I have found nine different spellings for my father's surname in a short 63 years within two states.
As I mentioned, this is a new area of research for me. I recently received the Robout surname for the wife of the brother of my gg/gf.
There were RobertRoberts in the area also.
