Hannah Coal Company-1938
My husbands' mother's 10 year old brother, David Kaurich was killed while playing at the Dunglen Mine of the Hannah Coal Company in August of 1938. We've been told that David's father was the one who led the attempt to dig him out of the sand.We have a newspaper article from a Steubenville newspaper about the incident. It says that artificial respiration was applied by Peter Harrold, mine foreman and J. Woomer. After 20 minutes David started to breath and was rushed to Martins Ferry Hospital but later died there despite efforts to keep him alive with oxygen. David is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
I was wondering if any of you might know of a Harrold Family or Woomer Family.......would like them to know of their ancestor's good deed. Also, any information about the Dunglen Mine would be appreciated! Thank you for reading this.
