This seems a silly question, but as the lady is still alive can't she "fill in" her own family history....or how about her daughter, your sister in law? Surely they'd know about their own family. This seems a strange request, and I believe you'll find that folks are very leary about passing on information to a conplete stranger, concering people that are still living.
