Well, it's nice to meet another HOPKINS researcher. This branch of my family has been a real challenge. I'll try to give you a summary and if you'd like more detail, we could switch to email if you'd like.
My Hopkins immigrant were William C. Hopkins (b: 1811 in England - possibly Devonshire) and his wife Jane (Standley) Hopkins (b: 1813 - probably Leicestershire). They were married 14 Oct 1833 in Thornton, Leicestershire, England.
They immigrated from Leicestershire through Liverpool on the SS Cornelia and arrived in NY on 11 June 1849.
They were found living in Townsend Twp., Huron Co., on the 1850 federal census. By the 1860 census, they have removed from Huron Co. and a couple if their sons are living in Clay Twp., Ottawa Co., OH (near Toledo). William shows up there in 1870, but I've never found Jane anywhere after the 1850 census.
In all, they appear to have had 6 sons:
Jamesb: 19 Apr 1835 (Snarestone, Leicestershire)
d: Abt 1880 (near or in Toledo, OH)
Thomasb: Abt 1837 (probably in Snarestone) - I can't
find him after 1850, either.
Charles W.b: 28 Jun 1838 (Snarestone)
d: 117 Nov 1922 (Sandusky, OH)
Josephb: Mar 1846 (Snarestone) - I can't find him
after 1850, either.
Henry J.b: Apr 1848 (Snarestone)
d: 4 Jun 1849 on the SS Cornelia
Edward M.b: Aug 1850 (Probably Huron Co, OH)
d: 22 Jul 1927 (Lucas Co., OH)
Edward is a fairly recent addition to this list. I found him on ancestry.com and with all the information I've been able to gather and his proximity to other family members, he must have been born just after the 1850 census was taken in Huron County.
I don't know if Jane died shortly after, or if she just left the family. I've never seen her since the 1850 census and have found no record of her death or burial.
William lived until at least the late 1870's. He was judged "inane", appointed a ward, who had him committed to "the insane assylum" after his money ran out. I've never been able to determine which assylum they committed him to, but I've found no record of him since then.
His sone, James, is my direct ancestor and after his wife (Mary Abigail Butler) died after giving birth to their last child, he abandoned his children to other family members and re-married a "lady" who was arrested in Toledo for "running a house of ill-fame" in 1880. She listed herself as a "widow of James". I presume he dies of TB as he was excused from Civil War duty for the same illness 20 years before.
Unfortunately, I don't recognize the Hopkins family you mentioned. I also know of no other immediate family members of my immigrant family that came to the states.
