Last year my wife and I drove by an old church in Stuben while on a visit to Ohio researching my Kautz family history. I have an assortment of records indicating that my direct decendent, John Lorenz Kautz, married Christiana Susanna Kraft in 1848 (more below). I believe they were (or at least he was) residing in Steuben, OH at the time and most likely were members of that church. They are buried in the Trinity (Zion) Lutheran Cemetery in Willard after having moved there in 1854. After moving to Chicago Junction (Willard) he helped organize and served as deacon for the Zion Congregation of Richmond until 1874.
The reason I am posting this is to request assistance in verifying some of this information. Is there a way to confirm if church records indicate a date for that marriage in 1848?
Also, the 1850 Census for Huron County indicates two other people were living at their residence in Greenfield Township. A child, Lawrensia C. (age 6/12 months) who would have been born in Ohio in May, 1850 and Lorenz' mother, Hannah M. Kautz, age 54, born in Germany in 1796. Apparently there was also another child who died in infancy, Christiana (?). Are there any church or other records to indicate any of their births, deaths, or confirmations? None of their names show up in the Cemetery Records available now but it makes sense that they (the mother and two infants) would be buried in old Stuben church cemetery but the headstones having disappeared over the years. Can anyone confirm any of this for me?
More: In 1848 J.L. Kautz married C. S. Kraft who was one of 5 children born to Conrad Kraft, Sr and Christiana Leitenberger Kraft. The children (including C. S.) were born in Mundelsheim Wurtember, Germany before moving to a farm near Steuben, Ohio in 1847.
The Kautz's had 5 children. Two died in infancy and three survived: Caroline Kautz Linder, John Kautz, and Mary Kautz Wilkins. C.S. Kraft died in 1862. Apparently the family moved from Stuben to Willard in December, 1854.
Can anyone confirm or add to this information. I have a Kraft family publication with some of this along with some obits but I would like to find more information, especially about J. L. Kautz and his son, John.
