Hi Shirley,
Thanks for your post today, and the one on April 25. I could not get back on the forum for some reason and so I couldn't respond and thank you for your very good advice.I have the posting taped next to my computer for reference. I am still searching for Speaker references in the Sandusky area, but think I may have found something easier: Frank Speaker's mother who we believe may have been Mary Evans, daughter of Elizabeth Evans, age 50 in the Milan Township (Erie County) Census, p. 132, entry 63. Today I found a reference to her mother, Elizabeth Evans, in the RB Hayes Obituary Index. It appears Elizabeth died in 1887. We know that Frank's mother was an Evans and his father was a Speaker, but haven't confirmed first names. I know he had family in the area, because his obituary said he had cousins. I assume they were Evans cousins, not Speaker cousins but that's purely assumption.
The Kelleys were unrelated to Kelley's Island as I understand it. And I have not heard of the Genealogical History of the Kelley Family, 1897. If it involves Captain Henry Kelley, then it is our story. I have read biographical sketches, but not books.
Let me know if you find anything.
