I was just at the Ohio Genealogical Society State Convention this past weekend. I purchased the book "Index of Erie County, Ohio Common Pleas Court Journals". Nehemiah D. Smith has several listings. This could be your Nehemiah Smith but, these records would have to be reviewed to see what is listed. The dates for these records are 1838-1865. Keep in mind that between 1838-1840 at least some of what is now Erie County was then Huron County. That is when the split of the counties was completed. So, in 1820, all of Erie County was contained in Huron County. Did you look in Erie County for Nehemiah Smith after 1838? He may have died in Erie County after 1840 but, before 1867. He has no listing in the death record book from 1867-1908 in Erie County. Shirley
