States: Ohio: Huron
My ancestor, Isaac Short, was born in New York State in 1804 and migrated to Huron County sometime between 1833 and 1836 (based on reported birthplaces for two of his children. He is seen on the 1840 and 1850 censuses in Greenwich, Huron County. The 1840 census shows a woman of the correct age to be his wife, though no names were given in the censuses of that time. By the 1850 census, there is no wife seen in the family grouping. Therefore, it would appear that she died there sometime betwee 1842 and 1850. I am trying to determine the name of Isaac's wife and ANY information would be helpful. I saw one online tree with a family that MIGHT be them and they reported a wife's name of Barbara. However, they did not show her dying until the 1890's, so I don't think this is the correct family. So, if anyone knows of any tombstones or other records for a Mrs. Short dying in Huron County in the 1840's I would be EXTREMELY grateful. ANY help would be very much appreciated.
They had one child, Abram, before coming to Huron County. They had daughters Amanda 1840, Angeline 1842 and Harriet 1836 while living there. They also had one other daughter (in NY) and one other son (bet 1835-1840 in Ohio). When did Huron County begin keeping birth records? What church records exist from the Greenwich area?
