Donna,

I just ran across your request. I don't know if anyone has responded to your request privately, but if not, here is the info you are looking for.

Abraham & Mary West Hand are buried in Fitchville Cemetery. The cemetery is located on the east side of US Route 250 at the north edge of Fitchville. The transcriptions were made in 1981, and a note with the transcriptions indicates that the couple were first buried in Ward Cemetery, and moved to Fitchville Cemetery in 1956. When moved, they were reburied in one grave. The inscriptions are:

Abraham Hand
Pvt., 3 Regt. Mass. Inf., Rev. War
Born Sept 22, 1764
Died Nov. 4, 1840

Mary (West) Hand
w/o Abraham Hand
Died 1840

They are buried in Section 1, Lot 47 of the cemetery.

The location of the Ward Cemetery is given as being in Fitchville Township, on the Archie Case farm, on the west side of US Route 250, three miles north of Fitchville. This is an old family cemetery, which contained about 40 burials. My guess is that since the Ward Cemetery was no longer being used (all the burials are between about 1840 and 1880), and may have been falling into neglect, Abraham's Revolutionary War service, may have been the factor which prompted his remains to be moved to an active cemetery. However, I guess the family could have made the decision.

Hope this helps.
Richard
