The 1850 census of Knox Twp., Holmes Co. shows Thomas TAYLOR age 36 b. PA and wife Rebecca age 29 b. OH with several children, including Delia age 3 b. OH.Living in their household was Benjamin SHEETS, son of my ancestors Samuel SHEETS & Phebe WINSLOW.A sister of Samuel SHEETS, Fanny, married James TAYLOR.Samuel's mother, Lydia (SIGAFOOS) SHEETS, was living with William TAYLOR and his wife Nancy in Knox Twp. in 1850.William WINSLOW, a brother of Phebe WINSLOW, married Louisa TAYLOR.
The WINSLOWs were from Massachusetts and lived in Tiverton Twp., Coshocton Co., while the SHEETS and TAYLORs were from Pennsylvania and lived in Knox Twp., Holmes Co.There were also several HARRIS families (who I understand were from Maryland), including Warren HARRIS, living in Knox Twp., Holmes Co.I haven't studied the HARRIS's much, but can tell you two more siblings of my ancestor Phebe (WINSLOW) SHEETS married HARRIS's, i.e. John WINSLOW married Elizabeth HARRIS and Sarah WINSLOW married John HARRIS.
It is a bit of a hike from Knox Twp. in Holmes Co. to Tiverton Twp. in Coshocton Co, so I've often wondered how these 4 families met up with each other and whether they used the River rather than roads to travel back and forth.
Per "Wills of Holmes Co., Ohio Recorded in Will Records A & 1," compiled by Nellie M. Raber, p. 102, William TAYLOR's will was signed 1 Nov 1854 and proved 23 Nov 1858 and names his wife Nancy, sons Louis, Thomas, James, and David, daughter Louisa WINSLOW, and "Mary TAYLOR, the girl I raised."
I had assumed that William's son Thomas TAYLOR was the same person who married Rebecca. If not, there would be two Thomas TAYLORs.What proof do you have that your Thomas' parents were James TAYLOR and Emma STUBBERZ?
Please e-mail me; I'd love to discuss the TAYLOR and HARRIS families with you.
