Foote & Budd families - England to Ohio - Help!

Looking for any & all info. on the Foote family that came from England to Ohio around 1885-1890. Mostly Cincinnati & then into Millersburg, Holmes County, Ohio later on. From there, most moved onto California, sometime before 1910. My GG-Grandfather was John Foote, born 1856 in Fareham, Hampshire, England & died 1946 in California (supposedly John was the illigitimate son of Cordelia Foote, who later married George Budd & had several children with him). He was a member of the Royal British Navy, and was married to Merinda E. Taylor, who was also English. His daughter Violet (Foote) Dohrmann was my G-Grandma. Grandma Violet had always said that she was the first of his children born in America, having been born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1897. John & Merinda Foote had atleast 2 children that died in England or shortly after arriving in America; Cordelia & Robin (a boy), and aside from them & grandma, also had children George, John H., and Daisy Foote. Daisy also died at a fairly young age, George is said to have died in Arizona in the 60's, and had 1 child, a daughter named Virginia Foote Hahn. John H. Foote died in California in 1948, and his children were George, Clifford, Earl, Judith (Foote) Meyer, and John Thomas Foote. One of John H. Foote's wives had the maiden name of Mary Gilligan. My G-Grandma died in Oregon in 1974, but the contents of her home were just cleaned out in Aug. of 2002. I had bits & pieces up until then, but now the picture is a little more clear. Among the Foote photo's, were also some Budd family photo's, and I found a Budd/Foote family tree online & know it's the right one. I am willing to share whatever I have, and I hope someone else has more to share with me. Aside from the family pictures (not all are marked) are also school photo's from Cincinnati & one from Millersburg, and all the children's names are on the back (grandma Violet is in these) . Thanks for any help anyone may be able to provide. Karmen

Update from today...

I found more info. Apparently my GG-Grandfather John Foote, went by the name John Budd for awhile (his step-fathers name). I was having no luck finding the family on the 1881 census until today. One of the photo's of John Foote says on the back "HMS Malard, 1881". I found the HMS Mallard's manesfest for 1881, and there is a John Budd, but no John Foote. This Budd is the same age as my John, has the same birthplace, is on the right ship.. it had to be him. Then, I look for Budd's in Hampshire, and find John Foote's wife Merinda, listed as Maranda Budd, listed as a Seaman's wife, with the right children in her household; John H. & Cordelia.. also listed as Budd's. All the above died as Foote's, so I don't know when they stopped using the name Budd, or why they ever did in the first place. I found a tree online that I tie into, but have yet to hear back from the gentleman who posted it. If anyone knows anything about this family, please email me. Thanks!
