I was in Vinton County last year and got a few marriage applications and they were all written out with the father of the bride or groom who I searched for. I had hoped the same would be for Hocking County in earlier years.
My cousin told me that his father had told him that a brother to his great grandfather had been in the Civil War and come home after being gone a year. He saw a baby and when his wife told him it was his he walked back out the door.
I think that Andrew J Brooks might be that brother. I have a couple of other possible brothers too but that one seems most likely.
Of course then I would probably have tos earch out divorce records too.
