Phillips Family

According to military, census, death records and obituary, Samuel Phillips was born 1847 in Hocking Co., Ohio. His mother's maiden name was Beaver; given name was Nancy. On Samuel's marriage certificate (1867, Hocking Co., Ohio), it states that Perry Lathin (could be Latimer) came for the mother of the male. I have not been able to find Samuel in any census before 1870. Both his parents were born in Ohio. Samuel married Mary Katherine Jarvis 1867 in Hocking Co. They had 9 children; Marion; James A.; Annie; Rhoda & Rosa (twins); Oscar L.; Charles H.; Lois J.; Samuel A.(Alec). I am inclined to believe that his father either died or deserted the family when Samuel was young. If anyone has any info on the Phillips line of Hocking Co., Ohio, please contact me. groovin@charter.net
