I was transcribing some old newspaper articles written in the 1950 about Hocking Co. today and the follwoing was in one of the articles. I have the complete article if you are intersted which is about Benton Twp. and some of it's early pioneers.

"Dr. Emery Redfern, also of Benton Township, enlisted in the Union army when 20 years old, took part in 21 battles and marched with Sherman to the sea."
