Susanne,
I have researched Taylors in Ross and Highland for a dozen years but never came across Abner until I read your post and then saw his marriage in Ross.
In the early 1800's, brothers Abraham and Isaac Taylor came from the state of Delaware to Highland with their wives and children and settled near Rainsboro. The names of only some of their children are known but Abner is not among the ones I have seen.
A few miles east in Ross county, Bainbridge was settled about 1800 with the Taylors from NJ as a prominent family. William and Lucy (Imlay) Taylor and 13 of their 14 children lived around Bainbridge and along Paint Creek even into Highland and Fayette counties. Some only stayed a few years but some lived out their lives there.
The "Taylor-Snow Genealogy" (1935) contains most of the names of the over 120 grandchildren of this couple but Abner is not among them, either. I believe I descend from this couple but have not been able to factually connect my great-grandfather, Wm. Henry Harrison Taylor (1833-1893) to them. There many indications of a relationship but I can not find a will, Bible record or whatever to show the exact connection.
Anyway, I have checked through most of my research books and notes but I have struck out so far on Abner other than his marriage, except this:

From “History of Ross and Highland Counties, Ohio” by Williams Bros. (1880), page 115, in part:

73rd Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company D, a Corporal Abner Taylor is listed as killed in action during the Civil War. Probably too old to be your Abner but perhaps a son?

I'll keep an eye open for Abner.

good luck,
Steve Taylor
