I found a pension payment to his wife in the US Statutes at Large. You can find them on Google Books at http://books.google.com/books?id=_T83AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA1538&dq=%22henry+c.+bendel%22&cd=2#v=onepage&q=%22henry%20c.%20bendel%22&f=false
OR just search Henry C. Bendel in quotations marks and you will find it. I am mostly inerested in his father and mother and where they are from and how they came to the US.

As for the census. He is in Mason Co, KY under different spellings.

1860 Bender
1870 Bendall
