The Library of Michigan in Lansing has the following book: "DESCENDANTS OF JOHANES GNAGE AND JOHN KENEGE SR. AND RELATED FAMILIES." by Eugene Ellis Kenaga, Ph.D, 1584 E Pine River Rd, Midland Michigan 48640 1988 The book states that there are at least 152 alternate ways of spelling this surname. In my family records I see CANAGA and I also see CARNEGIE. Francis (Fanny) Canaga married my great great grandfather Barton Welch, a brother to Thompson Welch mentioned in other messages in the CANAGA forum. Their marriage occurred most likely in either Fulton County or in Harrison County OH c. 1856. There were also Welches (probably from PA as were the Canagas)in Harrison County OH c. 1800. My line of Welches came from MA>CT>VT>NY>OH>MI but I am confident they are related to the PA Welches.
