Hi Cheryl I cant give you a definite for sure proof. but I believe that Mordecai Hammond would be Jacob's father. In 1830, He is the only Hammon/Hammond in Hancock C. In 1840, He and his brother Thomas are the only ones in Hancock C. Acoording to the 1840 census Jackson Twp pg 41 1111101/0101001 It looks like that Jacob and Mary lived with Mordicai when they first married. [at least the ages of both fit here. By the 1850 census Jackson Twp pg 92a, the only children still at home with he and wife Zilla Gilbert, are Rebecca age 17, George 15, and John T. age 15. His son Jesse lives next door, age 24 as well as Henry age 18 who is living with Jesse and family. Rebecca died 10-20-1872. John T died 9-28-1854,Mordecai died 2-25-1855, Zilla his wife died 2-4-1877 and a daughter or a niece Zilla died 5-19-1853. All are buried at Krout Cemetery in Jackson Twp. Now Mordecai was an early settler of Hancock C and was a commisioner and a judge. there are several little stories written about him and one is available online at www.rootsweb.com/-ohhancoc/index.htm do a search on Mordecai Hammond. Now I read in a history of hancock c. published by anonymous, 1886 that He and Zilla had 9 children in all, 6 were still alive in 1886 and of those 6 4 lived in Hancock County and 2 lived elsewhere. That fits that Jacob moved out of County. No source I have found so far lists his children. I can check a few things at the library when I go next time but cant promise that I would find anything due to the time frame of him and few records were required then. Now as far as the Becks. There were no Becks in Hancock C in 1830. In 1840 The only Becks all lived in Amanda Twp.[pg 50-52] Andrew was the Father and he was age 60-70 in 1840. He died 7-15-1850 prior to the census. He is buried at Zion Bloom St Pauls Amanda Twp. I cannot confirm his place of birth . Other Becks Andrew age 30-40, Daniel 30-40 Henry 20-30 Peter age 40-50 [so he could be the father] and John age 40-50 [so he could be the father] I could find no other stories re them so far. so Although this gives you no proof it is certainly a 99% chance and gives you names to further research. Have you been able to get a death certificate for Jacob or for Mary? Many times they list parent names but not always. Penny Notify Administrator about this message?
