Don't know if this will help or not. I checked the City Directories starting with 1874 since you knew they were here then. In 1874 there were five Schuchardts and two Schucharts. SCHUCHARDT Charles - cutter, works Strader Ave, Pendleton [that's Kentucky] Fred - cabinet maker, home 653 Vine St Gunther - barber, works 9 West 6th St Herman - barber shop - 9 West 6th St Otto - barber, works 9 West 6th St George - cigar maker, boards 618 Vine SCHUCHART Charles - clerk, 224 W Pearl, boards 265 Richmond Philip (S& Theisinger) home 265 Richmond SCHUCHERT & THEISINGER (Philip S & Jacob T) Manufacturers of Funrniture, Sociable and Chair Frames, 224 W Pearl St. Perhaps you have information that will tell you which Charles, if either, is yours. The spelling of the last name varies from one year to another. In 1870 - there was no Charles - I found Fred, Herman, Philip and John In 1871 - there were only two, Herman and Fred (Philip was most likely there somewhere but they missed him.) 1872 - the first time Charles (the one listed as cutter above) shows up, he's a shoe worker at Alter, Winston & Co. Philip is back and Charles SchuchArt, a cigar maker living at 175 Hamilton Road [Today that is McMillian] 1873 - Charles, the shoe cutter, who seems to live in Kentucky Fred, Herman, Otto, and Philip [this is the first time his business is listed]. 1875 - H, Otto, Charles, bookkeeper at 224 Pearl, [Philip's company address], Michael, and Schuchert Mft & dealer in furniture 1876 - Schuchard,Chas, cigar box maker; Schuchardt,Charles J, shoe cutter; Fred, Gunther, H, and Herman; Schuchart, Joseph; Chas, bookkeeper; George, Joseph, Philip and William. 1877 - Charles J, shoemaker; Fred, George, Guenther, Herman, Herman, Joseph, Otto, Michael, Charles, bookkeeper; William and Philip 1888 - Charles, shoe cutter; Fred, Gunther, Herman, Otto, Joseph, Michael, Charles, clerk at John & Augusta; George, George, Gottlieb, Joseph, Michael and Phillip. 1889 - George, Joseph, Joseph, Michael, Charles J, shoecutter; Fred Guenther, H, H, and Otto 1900 - Bertha, Widow [husband's name not listed but the address belongs to the barbers], Fred, Guenther, H, H, Michael, Otto, Charles, foreman, Michael and Philip. I'm hoping some of these names will mean something to you or that you know what profession your Charles followed. If not,I'm afraid I wasn't much help. Good luck!
