I have been told that one William Patterson, born 1812, moved from Westmoreland County, PA, to Guernsey County, OH, where he resided in 1860 and 1870.
Some where along the line his first wife died and he married Mary Jane Young (born 1831 in PA)Ramsey widow.
William is said to have died in Mecklenburg, VA.
The 1880 census for Christiansville, Mecklenburg, VA,
shows the head of house is Mary Patterson age 49,
with Sarah Patterson age 25 (from William's first marriage),and William Patterson age 21 (from William's first marriage), and Robert L. Patterson age 15, son of William and Mary Jane Patterson, and Thomas Patterson age 13, son of Mary Jane's marriage to William.
In 1884, Mary J. Patterson of Mansfield, Richland County, OH, was named the "guardian of Edith Patterson, minor child of James J. Patterson, late of Washington D. C."
Could this be the same James Patterson listed in your posted will? This is probably the same "Edith" Patterson who appears in Mary J. Patterson's household in 1900, who was born May 1877 in Virginia.I am having trouble confirming the migration pattern of William and his two wives.
