LYLE / LISLE / LEEPER - 1800's

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone has come across the names Lisle/Lyle or Leeper. Lisle is my maternal grandfather's surname, but his ancestors spelled it Lyle or Leill (a clerk did) in Scotland. Robert came over or his son's William, James, and Robert did. John, a brother of Robert, Sr. or possibly another relation came over first and became a merchant, maybe near Philadelphia. At first the various members of the Lyle clan came to Philadelphia, but most of the three brothers settled further West in Washington Co., PA

James and Robert went toward Washington Co., PA William settled in Allegheny Co., PA; eventually all brothers moved to various parts of Ohio. William & Robert died in Harrison Co., OH and James died in Jefferson Co., OH. James moved to Guernsey, Co.,OH which is where he married and raised his family. His wife, Rebecca Fankboner, was also born in PA; her father was John. John died abt. 1814, in PA or possibly OH.

I'm descended from the son, James, but would be interested in learning anything I can on other family members. It's been difficult resarching them partly because of the time frame and partly because there seems to be more than one family named Lyle who lived then. This becomes even more confusing with all the men with the same first names.

James was born abt. 1768 in Lanark, SCOT and died abt. 1848 in OH. I believe he married abt. 1808, so it probably in PA. I have a possible name of Elizabeth. They had abt. twelve children, all born in PA, except the youngest one or two born in OH., but some of those children born in PA stayed or died young while in PA. Some of his descendents' families moved further West

James father, Robert, was born in Lanark, SCOT in April 1732. He died in SCOT or PA. His wife (first?) was Jean or Janet Taylor whom he married in SCOT in 1756. I haven't been able to discover if they came to America, if she died before then, or if he remarried in the US. I did find some evidence that sons William and Robert probably served in the Revolutionary War and that some of the three signed the document required by the government at the time of the Whiskey Rebellion.

That may seem like a lot of info to wade through, but I wanted to give you enough data to choose from. Hopefully, the name Lyle/Lisle will be familiar from something. There were also persons named Leeper who married into the Lisle family in 1850 in OH. James and John were prominent names in this family also. The Leeper family that came to Guernsey Co.OH had also been in Washington Co. PA. Thanks for any info you may be able to find.
