Jacob Dennis only married once. That was to Susannah Adams, 26 October 1826, Guernsey, Ohio. (He did not marry a Hannah Adams.) Susannah died August 02, 1865, Guernsey Co., Ohio. According to descendents, the Mary A. Adams with Jacob Dennis on the 1850 census was Susannah's mother. She also was the mother of Mary Ann Adams who married William G. Waller.
The Dennis family was connected to the Wallers, perhaps starting in Washington Co., Maryland, where both William Waller Sr and William Dennis Sr were on the 1790 census, but definitely in Guernesey Co. and Jackson Co., Ohio. Unfortunately, the nature of the connection is not clear.
There were several Waller/Dennis land transactions in Guernesy Co.: In 1824 William Wallar sold John Dennis (son of William) 100 acres in Westland Twp. In 1832 William G. Wallar and wife sold John Dennis 34 acres, in Westland Twp., for $177. On 19 Oct 1832 John and Catherine Dennis sold 20 acres in Westland Twp. to William Wallar for $60.
John Dennis was on the 1830 census living a few houses from William Waller Sr. andnext door to William Waller Jr.
On the 1860 census a Sarah A. Wallar, age 37, and Emma Waller, age 8, were living in the household of Thomas Blackstone and Nancy Dennis.Nancy was the daughter of William Dennis Sr. and the sister of John Dennis and Jacob Dennis.
Between 1840 and 1850, several members of the Guernsey Co. Dennis family moved to Jackson Co., Ohio. Members of the Guernsey Co. Waller family also moved to Jackson Co., about the same time. There was an 18 year-old John Waller on the 1850 Jackson Co. census with Erastus Dennis and his wife.Erastus was William Dennis Sr's grandson.
