I do not know that I can help you with the quest for an answer to your question, but I have been researching the Sparrowgrove/Sparrgrove/Spargrove families from Harrison/Guernsey/Noble Counties Ohio to Iowa County Iowa. I believe that the 1850 family you note for John and Isabella, one of their sons, John who married Delilah went to Honey Creek Township in Iowa Co IA and in the 1870 Iowa Co census at Koszta postoffice, is the following household:
#153/158 Spargrove, Isabell 30 keeping house bn OHIO
Spargrove, Thomas 20 at home bn OH
Spargrove, John 80 without occupation bn VIRGINIA
Spargrove, Isabella 90 without occupation bn VA

If you trace John and Isabella Sparrowgrove in 1860 Noble Co OH, Noble Township, Hoskinsville #467/458 you will find Sparagrove, John 87 retired bn PA, Isabella 76 domestic bn Ireland, Joseph 54 farmlaborer bn OH, Isabella 22 domestic bn OH. These census seem to be the same couple but the ?? Isabella seems to have unusual age differences, but I believe that they are possibly the same. Also it seems that John's birthplace goes from PA to VA and Isabella's from Ireland to VA--so that needs to be better documented.

I have also found a John Sparrowgrove in 1810 Washington County Pennsylvania and one in 1840 Harrison Co Ohio which I believe to be this John and Isabella family. I have not determined where they were inbetween.

I will be glad to share what I have on the Sparrowgrove children/families that moved to Iowa Co IA if you are interested. I am trying to prove the parentage of one John M. Sparrowgrove born 1868 in Benton Co IA, whose parents I believe to be James Sparrowgrove born 1845 Ohio, married Susann (unknown maiden name) born 1844 in Ohio; by 1870 they have two children Franklin 1862 Ohio and John M. 1868 Iowa. John M. (1868) married Margaret J. in Iowa Co IA about 1892 and had eight children: William R, Frank W, Charles E (line I am tracing), Lloyd, Sidney, Earl, Everett and Lucille. I have not discovered who James Sparrowgrove's parents are--that in another question I want to resolve.
