Baer. --- Joseph N., son of the late John and Catharine (Nofziger) Baer, was born March 18, 1877, near Archbold, Ohio; passed from this life at the Memorial Hospital, Wauseon, Ohio, Feb. 9, 1950; aged 72 y. 10 m. 22 d. On Dec. 18, 1900, he was united in marriage to Katie E. Schrock, of Lagrange, Ind., and together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for a little over forty-nine years. To this union were born 6 daughters and 2 sons (Louella-Mrs. Dennis Short, Huldah-Mrs. Floyd Sauder, Clarence J., Rosella, Laurence J., all of Archbold, Ohio; and Viola and Cora, Fairpoint, Ohio). The home was also shared for a number of years with an orphaned niece and nephew (Emma Wyse-Mrs. Clarence King and John H. Wyse). A daughter (Clara) preceded him in death in 1923. His parents, 4 grandchildren, and 4 sisters also predeceased him. Surviving are the companion, 7 children, 16 grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. As a young man he was converted and became a member of the Mennonite Church in Fulton Co., Ohio, remaining a faithful member until his death. Always concerned for the progress and purity of the church he was willing to be used in any way in order that the cause of Christ might be promoted, and that the Gospel might reach more individuals. He was actively engaged in Sunday-school work over a period of many years. Death was caused by a coronary occlusion and came as a shock when he was apparently making a satisfactory recovery from an operation to which he had submitted on Feb. 2. The memory of his consistent, unselfish life is a challenge to more deeply consecrated living. By his wise counsel he encouraged many spiritually. His godly life leaves to his family a heritage that for outweigh material things. Funeral services held at the West Clinton Church, Pettisville, Ohio, were in charge of E. B. Frey, O. N. Johns, Olen Nofzinger, and D. L. Sommers. Interment was made in the Pettisville Cemetery.
