Will of Francis Hollyday of Kent County, MARYLAND
Francis died in 1765 about the month of June. His will was signed 21 Mar
1765 and proved 6 June 1765. His children were: George, Moses, William, Mary, Hannah,Rachel, Benjamin, Ebenezar, and John. In an abstract it says he had land on the west side of the Cypress Branch and land on the east side of Cypress Branch: "Little Forest" and "Dame's Disappointment." The executors were daughter, Mary and son George.
Reading the will of Francis it says "I...bequeath unto my son George my now dwelling plantation...being to the west Side of the Cypress branch...unto my son Mosses all my land lying to the east Side of the Cypress Branch called Little forest...and [to]...my Son William my land Called Daniels disappointment being fifty acres...[and]...to my six youngest Children vizt Hannah Rachel William Benja Ebeneazer and John to their heirs forever and in case of Either of their
deaths before they come to age then and in Such Case the Survivor or Survivors of them Six to inheritt the desease part or Share..."

Notes for William Holliday:
William Holliday made his will 3 May 1776 in Duck Creek Hundred, DE. It was probated 29 June 1776. In it he names his brothers Benjamin and John; sisters Mary, Hannah and Rachel; nephew Samuel Watkins; and guardian Robert Watkins, father of nephew Samuel. The executor was Robert Watkins. Of special interest in the will is the part "First I give and bequeath to my Brother Benjamin Holliday all my land lying in Kent County in the Provence of MARYLAND"
William also gives to "my Nephew Samuel Watkins fifteen Pounts..." and "...my Nephews father Robert Watkins..." In the probate papers obtained from the Delaware Archives at Dover it shows "To Cash retained it being a legacy left Samuel Watkins by the will of Wm. Hollady decd.
On another page of the same package of material on the estate of William Holliday there is the note "On behalf of Edward Holliday administrator of Benjamin Holliday who was residuary Legatee of William Holliday within mentioned, I object to every matter and thing contained in the within account." Signed by Henry M. Ridgely, 12th Nov. 1803.
There is a note in the Robert Watkins estate papers which says, "To cash paid C.A. Rodney Esqr. For defending an action at suit of Wm. Holliday adm. Agt. Robt. Watkins admr D.B.N. as pr act."
At this point the bottom line is that Samuel Watkins, son of Robert and Rachel Watkins, was the nephew of William Holliday. This puts William and Rachel in the same Holliday family, they were brother and sister.

Notes for John J. Templeton:
According to family accounts he was unusually robust and very strong. He was about 6 ft. 7 in. tall and weighed up to 502 lbs. It was said that he could lift the rear end of a loaded wagon and could lift a 1000 lbs. His powerful chest measured 72 inches. He died of erysipelas, An acute disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by a species of hemolytic streptococcus and marked by localized inflammation and fever. Also called Saint Anthony's fire.
He came to Wayne Co. Ohio with his father in 1817 and when he was of age he joined the militia regiment at Wooster, OH as drum-major and served for 14 Ayrs at which time he was a colonel of the regiment. He moved to Fulton Co. OH in 1852.
His will 20Feb1877 (Ohio, Fulton Co., Will records 1875-1882 Bk#4 pp 111-113) filed March
1877, names wife Susan Templeton, heirs of my Son Benjamin Templeton, daughter Martha Ann
Templeton, daughters Rachel Marie Moore, Sara J. Benford, Elizabeth Jameson, Mary Margaret Hart,
Susan Catherine Templeton, and my sons John S. Templeton, William Templeton, Nathaniel Templeton.

The remains of the Aged Lady Was Brought Here for Burial in Local Cemetery
Sarah Jane Templeton was born Sept 24, 1828 in Hayne Co., Ohio. She moved with her parents to Fulton Co., Ohio and from there she moved to Princeton, Ill, where she was united in marriage to Robert Benfer in the year of 1862. After residing there five years they moved to Polk Co., Iowa, and from there to Cambridge, Iowa where she has since lived. She was converted at the early age of 16 and united with the Baptist church, was a member of that church 9 years. Later she united with the Methodist
Episcopal church and has been a member since.
Mrs. Benfer passed away at the Francis Home at Indianola, Iowa, Wednesday morning at 2:30 O'clock Dec. 28, 1910 aged 82 years, 3 months and 4 days. Her husband, Robert Benfer, preceded her 12 years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss four children C. F. Benfer of Cambridge, Mrs. I. R. Horton of Hanford California, Mrs. E. G. Johnson of Cambridge and Miss Emma Benfer of Los Angeles California. *************

THE TEMPLETON FAMILY
Eds. Tribune-- I saw sometime ago that pioneer history and old relics were wanted at your office. I will give you the history and Pioneer life of the Templeton family, so that in case I should want to run for path-master? in the future, you would have my record to refer to.
CAPTAIN JOHN TEMPLETON, the great great grandfather of John S. Templeton of Swan Creek, moved from Scotland some time in the closing days of 1600 and settled in eastern Pennsylvania. He was a Hiland Scott by birth and said to have been descendant of the Scotch
Giants. He was 6 feet and 7 inches in height.
Captain Nathaniel Templeton, his son was a Captain under Col. Crawford and was present at his defeat by the Indians; in 1782 Captain Templeton was killed and scalped by the Indians on the banks of the Sandusky River, near where Fremont now stands. His gun was secured by his comrades and carried back to his family in Washington Co. Pennsylvania. His son, Captain John Templeton, who followed the Ohio River as a steamboat captain for number of years, in 1817 moved his family to Canaan Township, Wayne County Ohio, being one of the first settlers of that county and his family still kept the gun as a relic of the bloody battle ground of Sandusky.
His son, John Templeton, the widely known fat man of Fulton County, who died several years since? was born in Washington County Pa in 1803 ( I have 1807) and came with his parents to Wayne County, Ohio and when of age joined a militia regiment at Wooster as drum-major and served in the same regiment for 14 years in the meantime having been promoted to
Colonel of said regiment. He resigned, finally, on account of getting so heavy that he could not get a horse capable of carrying him. His weight was 464 pounds. He served his County of Wayne as Coroner for a number of years and moved with his family to Fulton County in 1852.
His son, Captain John S. Templeton was born in Wayne County, Ohio March 22, 1833,
coming to Fulton County with his father in 1852. He was employed by L. S. & M.. S. RR Co.
(Long Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad) and served the same faithfully for over fifteen years at different times, in different capacities. He made the ties to lay the first rails on the Air Line road; he cut the timber from the hills where Wauseon now stands, when there were but seven houses in the town. He served in Co. I 38th Reg. OVI during the Civil War, serving in every capacity from a private to first lieutenant, in the same company and received a commission as Captain, which did not reach the regiment, however, until after his time had expired and he had been mustered out. He is a member of the Quiggle Post No. 289 G.A.R. at Swanton and is a delegate elect, to the 20th annual encampment of Ohio, and his wife is also a delegate elect of the Woman's Relief Corps of Swanton. His three sons are members of Camp of Sons of Veterans at Swanton. His son Frank is Captain of this Camp, and his son J. B. is a past Captain and delegate elect to the department encampment of Sons of Veterans. His
son John W. Templeton is Captain by brevet? of the Ohio National Guard and Sergeant of the
guard of Camp 64, S of V, Swanton.
J. S. Templeton has in his possession a sleeve button that his great grandfather wore before he went with Colonel Crawford and a gun that his father captured of the out-law Dristel? in the early days of Wayne County. The gun is over 50? years old.

John S. died later this same year on November 24, 1886 at age 53. He was ridden with illnesses after his enlistment in the Civil War according to a newspaper memorial submitted by the Quiggle Post
No 289 G.A. R. in Swanton, Ohio for Memorial held Nov. 30 1886 in his honor. The article was in the Fulton County Tribune, issue Dec. 18 1886.
Our comrade responded to the mandatory of universal nature and passed on up higher on the 24th day of November 1886, aged 52 years, 8 months and two days. He has laid by armor of warfare on earth forever, a fearless and brave soldier, a patriot, a zealous and unceasing defender of his country, its honor and its flag, although by no request of his comrades or volition of his own. He went as he came
with no knowledge or desire of coming and no power to prolong his stay, yet the fact remains all the same: That Quiggle Post has lost one of its most congenial members, the wife of his bosom a husband
and his three sons a father, and reminds us all of uncertainty of life and the sure decay of all earthly ambition and greatness.
Comrade Templeton enlisted in the United States Army for the suppression of the Rebellion on the 21st day of August 1861, as private of Company I, 38th regiment, OVI was promoted to to first Lieutenant and resigned his commission on account of sickness on January 4th, 1864, having served his country 2 years, 4 months and thirteen days, since which he has been almost a constant sufferer from diseases contracted while in the army.

Death Claims Former Cambridge Resident
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Colo Evangelical United Brethren church for George H. Benfer, 60, who died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his farm home, one mile south of
Colo.
Mr. Benfer had been doing some cleaning up around the corn crib at his farm when stricken by a heart attack.
Mr. Benfer's parents died in October and December of 1949; also a son Perry was killed in 1945 while in the service.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two granddaughters, three brothers and six sisters.

I believe this would be Sarah and Robert's grandson. From the historian in Cambridge, she was taken back by the mention of the name Benfer as there was a husband and wife team of photographers. I think that this was George's brother. As I look down in the corner it has written E & E Benfer. The historian think the wife was Eva, as that name pops up. the photo was taken of the M.E. church in 1900.

Naomi Hamp died February 11, 2000 at home of her son Clarence (Sonny).
She was the daughter of Charles Hamp b.1876 and Grace .
Naomi was a beautician most of her life but did work 10 years at Globe
Warneke as a press operator. In 1979 she and her 4rth husband moved to
New Mexico where she lived until Frank died. She then came back to Ohio
to live near her son Clarence (Sonny) Whipple. While in New Mexico she
and Frank were credited for getting a senior center set up in their community.
She is buried between her mother, Grace Halderman Hamp Coon with her mother's second husband Leonard Coon next and the Naomi's father Charles Hamp who died when she only 15 years old.
