BONTA-Juanita A. "Nicki", of Dublin, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2004 at home. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Dora Southard, brothers Clyde and George, sisters Mary, Ada, Margaret and Clara. Survived by husband, Dr. Joseph Bonta; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Bonta and Darrin Lane; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marco and Kimberly Bonta; 4 grandchildren, Julie Bonta, Chelsea Bonta, Tyler Bonta and Vincent Bonta; sister and brother-in-law, Katy and Charles Austin; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bonta was a registered nurse at the emergency room New York Hospital at Cornell University Medical College, served as a nurse on the Santa Paula Ship, of the Grace Line, to the Caribbean and as a specialized nurse to polio patients at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio during the polio epidemic. She traveled to the Philippine Islands with her husband during the Korean War to care for polio patients at Clark Field. She then traveled to Manila to care for a daughter of a Philippine government official. Later, she worked at The Ohio State University Hospital and Slone Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York where she worked in surgical oncology. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road at Reed Road, Columbus. Father Michael Watson, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Riverside Methodist Hospital Foundation, 3535 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43214 in her memory.
