Looking for any information regarding Joseph Ryan Sr.. Some sources claim he immigrated from Ireland, but I have seen that claim substantiated. Any information would truly be appreciated! I have tons of info regarding many of his decendants, especially Meshack, and would be glad to trade or share.

1. Joseph Ryan Sr. was born Bef. 1760 in Ireland?, and died Bef. 1831 in Fayette Co., OH. He married Elizabeth probably in PA. She was born Bet. 1760 - 1768, and died Abt. 1834 in Fayette Co., OH.

Notes for Joseph Ryan Sr.:
Lived in Washington Co., PA area from before Revolutionary War until just before 1800 when the family moved to Fayette Co., OH.

More About Joseph Ryan Sr.:
Residence: Bet. 1780 - 1800, Washington Co., PA. during the Whiskey Rebellion.

Children of Joseph Ryan and Elizabeth are:
2       i.       Rev. Benjamin Ryun, born 23 Apr 1785 in Washington Co., PA.; died Abt. 23 Mar 1869 in Union Twp., Wayne Co., IA. He married (1) Nancy Callender 27 May 1807 in Ross Co., OH; born 25 Dec 1787 in Eastern shore of Maryland, near Bucktown; died 22 Nov 1836. He married (2) Mary Connors 05 Dec 1837 in Fayette Co., OH; born Abt. 1790.

Notes for Rev. Benjamin Ryun:
Benjamin lived in Fayette County, Ohio for a long time where he was a Methodist minister. He moved to Iowa later in life.

Benjamin's tombstone is located in Sharon Cemetery, which is in Washington Township, Wayne Co., IA. It was broken off when we visited the cemetery on Aug 14, 1999, and the only remaining inscription was "AGED 83y 10m 28d". It is located directly south an infant son of Asa and Eliza J. Ryun and directly north Polly, wife of Benjamin Ryun. Verna May, coordinator for Wayne County, looked up the stone for me and sent me the following reply:

"According to the Wayne County Cemetery Books, the stone in Sharon Cemetery Row 14 Plot 14.12 is that of B--- Ryun Died ? 21, 1870 age 83 yrs. 10 mo 28 da."

According to Ross County Courthouse Records, Banjamin Ryan married Nancy Callender. Wedding took place on 27 May 1807. Nancy died 22 November 1836. He married Mary Conners on December 5, 1837. In this record, Benjamin is identified as "Reverend."

The 1850 census shows (Jefferson TWP, Fayette County, Ohio, Page 16, Dwelling 114) Benjamin married to Polly (nickname for Mary?.) In this record, his occupation is "Minister." There is a child named Samuel, age 8, living there, too. Also in the home is Robert Gorden, Age 15, M, b. Ohio shown as "pauper."
