Solomon Bonner - Possibly Fayette County

Please read my post in the Bonner Family forum # 1706. I believe that certain circumstances indicate that the Solomon Bonner born ca. 1774/76 father of Henry Bonner was my 4th great grandfather (Viz.) Both Henry’s were born June 15, 1802, both Henry’s were born in Virginia, both had father’s named Solomon, and both were from Ross County, Ohio (and perhaps later on also from Fayette County, Ohio?). The Henry in your post married a “Polly” Unknown. My 3rd great grandfather Henry Bonner married a “Mary” Unknown. In the past “Polly” (and “Molly”) were nicknames for females with the given name “Mary”.

Post # 1706 is transcribed from a book titled, "Pictorial and Biographical Memoirs of Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties, Indiana", Chicago, Goodspeed Brothers, 1893, 773 pages, sketch on Page 175.

It was the type book that was popular ca. 1880s to the 1910s. I don’t think that the same Solomon born in 1774/76 would be the same Solomon Bonner that died in 1890. This would make him over 100 years old when he died. It is possible, however, that it could be Solomon’s son (also named Solomon) who was reportedly born in 1819.

The above referenced book says that Solomon Bonner born ca. 1774 died in 1851. A tombstone transcription I got from the Elkhart County Genealogical Society gives the date as 15 September 1852 – 77 y. I tend to go with the tombstone transcription because (I think) that the Bonners tended to have tombstones and wills. It was also about forty years between the death event and the book publishing date. I suspect that placing the monument was much closer to the death event date; no proof just a feeling.
