Abraham Newland, m. Helen Brumback, 23 Aug 1795. On 18 Apr 1802. Powell Newland, m. Polly Brumback. Both couples were m. by Alexander Balman in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA. Both Abraham & Powell Newland are found in 1820 & 1830 census of Fayette Co., OH. The Rev. Balmain was initally a Presbyterian Minister who became an Episcopal priest probably to satisfy state religion of VA.
The IGI indicates Abraham Newland was b. 16 Jan 1781 & was s/o John Newland and Margaret Ware which in incorrect as John & Margaret were not m. until 20 Sep 1788. Although Abraham may have been s/o John Newland by a former wife.

Fran LaMont in her Ancestry.com message of 17 Nov 2001- Subject: Newland/Newlin's of VA PA - discusses Revolutionary War Soldier John Newland. She states this John d. 1 Sep 1843, Concord Twp, Fayette Co., OH.
The IGI frther notes Nicholas Newland, b. 1785 was a son of John & Margaret (Weir} Newland. This claim appears equally incorrect based on the Newland / Weir Fraktur which was completed in Early 1800's. However, Nicholas Newland may well be John's son by a wife other than Margaret Weir.

This source relates to the petition of Dr. Samuel Gay for pension and includes the 1831 deposition of John Newland, who served in the same Regt. with Surgeon Saml. Gay.
Incidentally, Noah Swayne was a witness to the "confessions" made at the hearing. Noah Swayne m. into the Harper Family of Harpers Ferry & was appointed Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court by Abraham Lincoln.
It is my understanding only members of the Continental Lines were eligible for Bounty Land Warrants based on sevice during the Rev. War. Fran LaMont cites John Newland's pension file No. S40197 and his Bounty Land Warrant #4150 which was assigned to Robert Means. The National Archives advises the only surviving record is the Bounty Land Warrant #4250. If anyone has a copy of S40197 please consider my interest in obtaining a copy.
