Rosalie Celine DeBrosse (1851-1920)was the second child of Denis Ferjeux DeBrosse (m. Margaret Hummel 6/12/1849). Her family owned farmland near the village of Russia (pronounced "Rooshie" in French), OH (Shelby County OH). Most likely she married Jean Claude Petitjean in the Russia village church of St. Remy. They had nine children.

Rosalie's father and some other members of his family moved to Missouri in the 1860's. Rosalie, her husband and children remained in Ohio. John was their sixth child.
