John Hess, b. 5 Sep 1810, OH; d. 13 Jan 1886, Franklin Twp., Darke Co., OH; bu. Newcomer Cemetery, Painter Creek Baptist Church, said on 1860 Franklin Twp., Darke Co., OH census, aged 48, that he was b. in Greene Co., OH. He m. 10 Oct 1832, Montgomery Co., OH, Sarah Danner, b. 5 March 1811, VA; d. 4 June 1882, Franklin Twp., Darke Co., OH. They settled in Darke by the 1840 census; William Hess, aged 20-30, also was there then.

Children of John Hess and Sarah:
Carolina, b. c1834, OH; d. after 1850; not found in Darke Co., OH marriages.
William, b. 1835, OH; m. 11 May 1855, Darke, Christian Penny.
Sarah Jane, b. 1835, OH; m. 11 May 1855, Darke, Francis A. Penny.
Henry, b. 1839, OH; m. 9 Aug 1862, Darke, Mary Jane Long.
Ellen Ann, b. 1841, Darke; m. 1 by 1869 Louis Appleton; m. 2 30 Sep 1878, Miami Co., OH, John Stricker.
Rhoda, b.c1849, Darke Co., OH; m. 7 Apr 1864, Darke, Christian Poock.
