Joseph L. Myers was born in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, and moved to Wabash County, Indiana, in 1838, where he was united in marriage to Mary A. Dart, December 24, 1840. They were the parents of four sons and two daughters. Of this family only two sons are living. Two of the sons were in the United States Service, one of whom was killed at the siege of Vicksburg, May, 1863. The subject of this sketch joined the Presbyterian Church in Ohio at the age of 17, but since coming to this county many years ago had not kept up fellowship in any church organization.
He died suddenly, at Van Wert, of heart failure, July 13, 1899. Funeral services were held at Palestine Church east of Decatur, after which his remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife who preceded him some six years. Brother Myers was a kind hearted man, inoffensive and unassuming and was kind to all with whom he came in contact. His age was 61 years, 11 months and 23 days.
