Cleveland Diocese Archives

Has anyone contacted the Archives of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese? I was once told that the Archives holds the records from the 1880s - early 1900s. What about records prior to 1880s? My ancestors attended St. Mary's of the Assumption Church on Jersey Ave. This church replaced St. Mary's on the flats for German speaking worshippers. Does anyone have any experience trying to obtain early church records?

Thanks,
Tom
