In the 1930 census John was 45 and was first married at 27, or first married 18-19 years before 1930, 1911-12.

Mary was 39 and first married at 19, or first married 20-21 years before 1930, 1909-10. The 1 year variation would depend on whether they had had their birthday yet in 1930. If their data is correct then Mary was married before she married John.
