Also someone has a family tree posted at Ancestry for someone who may be your Louis Sr.

You will find Louis Sr and Mary listed in the Marriage Records of Cuyahoga Co Probate Court

That tree lists his father as Stephen and mother as Mary. 1920 PA census Nanty Glo PA shows the following Could this be the same surname modified over time? It may have been spelled KASCAK or KASZAK when the family migrated to America.

Name Age
Stephen Kaschack 55
Mary Kaschack 52
Frank Kaschack 22
Stephen Kaschack 20
Joseph Kaschack 17
Rosa Kaschack 15
Louis Kaschack 13

1910 census Blacklick Twp Cambria County PA finds
Name Age
Steve Kascsak 48
Mary Kascsak 44
Helen Kascsak 19
Mary Kascsak 17
Lizzie Kascsak 15
Evank Kascsak 14
Lleve Kascsak 11
Joseph Kascsak 8
Rosie Kascsak 6
Louie Kascsak 3

It would appear the family was either Hungarian or Slovak, in which case Stephen would be Istvan.

There are 18 listings for KASCHALK listed in Switchboard phone listings for Ohio, all but one are in NE Ohio

Ineresting here is a Mary GARBINSKY listed in Aburn, Cuyuga NY about the right birthdate... and her father is listed as "propeitor hotel" The family was Polish.

Name Age
Thomas Garbinski 33
Cathus Garbinski 29
Peter Garbinski 10
Mary Garbinski 9
Michael Garbinski 7
Anna Garbinski 5
Nicolas Garbinski 2

and 1920 as "agent steamship co."

In regards to Catherine vs Katherine, in Slavic languages it is spelled Katherine. It appears both sides were of Slavic origins. Slovak and Polish are both Slavic ethnic groups.
