I can't answer your questions directly but here is some additional information about Ohio.
All of Northeast Ohio was set aside in the post Revolutionary period as a "reserve" for Conneticut folks who suffered loses in the Revolution. Even to this day it is known as the "Western Reserve".
And there was only one Indian tribe in Ohio at that time. They were the Ottawa Tribe and their reservation was what became Ottawa County, OHIO. Sometime about 1850, or so, they moved to Oklahoma because they feared white civiliztion would break up their tribe.
If you are certain that your folks were in Michigan then none of this applies.
