Old Settler Dead
James JOHNSTON of Jasper, an old settler, died Thursday night at his home as the result of a sudden attack of heart trouble. Mr. JOHNSTON was 76 years old. He is survived by a wife and a son. Buried at Paradise Cemetery.

James Powell JOHNSTON, was born in Keene twp, Coshocton County, Ohio on the 18th of August, 1839, to John A. and Susannah JOHNSTON. He married Effie C. GARLAND in Lexington, McLean county, Illinois on 24 September 1861.

James P. and his brother David mustered in Company A/94th Illinois Infantry on 8 Aug. 1862 and were discharged at Springfield, Illinois on 17 July, 1865.

James & Effie were parents of two sons. Charles Wesley JOHNSTON and Harry S. JOHNSTON.
